Project Reports

As part of the development of the management plan for the Western River Basin District, the Water Framework Directive sets a timetable and deadlines which have to be met in preparing the plan. Click here for the Project Summary Page.

The first of these deadlines was met in December 2004 when a Characterisation Report was submitted to the EPA. The Characterisation report is a review of the environmental impact of human activity and an economic analysis of water use in the Western River Basin District. It provides an assessment of the likelihood that surface water bodies within the WRBD will fail to meet the environmental quality objectives set out under the Directive. Based on this research a monitoring programme and programme of measures will be put in place to assist in meeting the objectives of the Directive and it is the starting point in developing the overall management plan.
